Retelling di Oliver Twist 

Trama: Olivia Brownlow is no damsel in distress. Born in a workhouse and raised as a boy among thieving London street gangs, she is as tough and cunning as they come. When she is taken in by her uncle after a caper gone wrong, her life goes from fighting and stealing on the streets to lavish dinners and soirees as a debutante in high society. When Jack encounters Olivia Brownlow in places he least expects, his curiosity is piqued. Why is a society girl helping a bunch of homeless orphan thieves? Even more intriguing, why does she remind him so much of someone he once knew? Ho scoperto questo libro su Instagram, grazie ad una fan art. Non ho mai letto Oliver Tiwst quindi non posso dire se questo sia un retelling accurato o meno. Però, conosco a grandi linee la trama principale e penso che sia stata un'eccellente versione della storia di Dickens.

Olivia Twist è una storia divertente, veloce e che cattura fin dalla prima pagina.

L'autrice crea l'atmosfera perfetta, creando una Londra che vale la pena esplorare. 

Olivia è una debuttante diciottenne. Il suo prozio l'ha accolta dopo aver saputo della sua esistenza. 

Trascorre il suo tempo andando alle feste, prendendosi cura di suo zio e rubando per prendersi cura di una banda di orfani che vivono per strada.

“Lesson one: Friends are just enemies in disguise.”

Olivia è incredibilmente intelligente e piena di risorse, prende in mano la situazione in numerose occasioni. Ricorre alle abilità che ha imparato quando era "Oliver Twist", anche da un membro dell'alta società, per aiutare chi ne ha più bisogno.

Il personaggio di Jack ha superato di gran lunga le mie aspettative. Un po' un libertino all'inizio, è dolce, sicuro di sé e vulnerabile, un ragazzo veramente buono che sta cercando di migliorare se stesso. 

“I would never claim to be a saint, Miss Brownlow.” His voice, soft and rich, melted her insides like butter. “But you, I would’ve remembered."

Mi è piaciuto tantissimo il modo in cui le strade di Olivia e Jack si incrociano, riportando a galla sentimenti del passato e anche nuovi.  

Jack e Olivia sono una coppia deliziosa, la crescita della loro storia d'amore è lenta e costante, costellata da battute deliziosamente taglienti che mi hanno fatto ridere. 

Olivia Twist è un mix perfetto di romanticismo, azione e mistero. L'ambientazione e i personaggi che ha creato Lorie Langdon mi hanno fatto innamorare della storia. E' un romanzo divertente e romantico da non perdere.
